Preferred First Name may be used, as possible, in the following locations:

• My Information
• Employee Self Service 9
• Faculty and Advisor Self Service 9 – Course Rosters, Faculty Grade Entry, Student Profile
• Student Self Service 9
• Canvas (August 2020)
• Diploma*
• ECU Email
• Degree Works
• ECU Directory (Public)
• Office 365 Applications / Teams

* In the United States the Diploma is a ceremonial document. International students should use their legal name on their diploma. Foreign countries may consider the diploma a legal document.

The Preferred First Name will not appear, including but not limited to, in the following locations:

• Pirate ID
• 1 Card
• Financial Aid
• Official Transcripts
• Student Health Insurance
• Cashier/Student Accounts and Payroll
• National Student Clearinghouse, Enrollment and Degree Verification
• Emergency Services and Campus Police
• Any behavior or discipline record
• Any business or other process that may require the use of Legal Name
• Any legal or other requirement that may result in the use of Legal Name
